This notice explains how Clear Cut Consulting Ltd ("Clearcut", "I", "me") uses personal data about the people I speak to: candidates, clients, referees and visitors to this website. Clearcut is run by me, Simon Evans, so I am the person who decides how your data is used and the person you contact about it.
Who I am
Clear Cut Consulting Ltd, registered in England, company number 08774595. Based in Somerset. Registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZB126877. Contact: simon@clearcutconsulting.co.uk or 07799 174686.
What I collect
- CandidatesName, contact details, current and past roles, CV, career history, qualifications, salary and package details, notice period, what you are looking for next, notes from our conversations, and interview feedback.
- ClientsName, job title, firm, contact details, and the details of the roles we are working on together.
- RefereesName, contact details and the reference you give.
- Website visitorsThis site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking individual visitors. If you book a call through Calendly, Calendly collects the details you enter.
I do not ask for special category data such as health, ethnicity or religion. If you choose to tell me something like this, for example about a health matter that affects an interview, I will only use it with your permission and only for that purpose.
Where it comes from
Mostly from you: our conversations, your CV and your emails. I also find people through public professional sources such as LinkedIn, company websites, industry press and referrals from people we both know. If I first hear about you from someone else, I will tell you how I came across you the first time I get in touch, and within a month at the latest.
Why I use it, and the legal basis
- To find, approach and represent candidates for roles, and to keep in touch about future roles that fit. Legal basis: legitimate interests. Senior hiring in UK financial services runs on discreet, relevant approaches, and I keep them relevant and occasional.
- To introduce candidates to clients, arrange interviews and manage offers. Legal basis: legitimate interests, and steps you have asked me to take. I will always talk to you before sending your details to a client, and I will never send them without your agreement.
- To run searches for clients, invoice and keep business records. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation.
- To check references and right-to-work details where a client needs them. Legal basis: legitimate interests and legal obligation.
I do not sell personal data, and I do not use automated decision-making to screen people out.
Who I share it with
- Clients, only for roles you have agreed to be put forward for.
- Referees you have named, to request a reference.
- The services I use to run the business, who process data on my behalf under contract: Shortlists (my recruitment CRM), Microsoft 365 (email and documents), LinkedIn, Calendly (booking calls), Netlify (website hosting) and Cloudflare (website visit statistics).
- Professional advisers and authorities where the law requires it.
Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where they do, appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long I keep it
- Candidates and contacts: for up to three years after our last meaningful contact, then deleted, unless we are in touch again in the meantime.
- Placements and client work: for six years after the end of the work, for contract, tax and legal reasons.
- Recruitment records required by the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003: for at least one year.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what I hold about you and give you a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your data, or stop using it
- stop contacting you about roles
- send your data to you or someone else in a usable format
Email me at simon@clearcutconsulting.co.uk. I will reply within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
